Getting Started
Getting started on planning a Discovery Student Adventure is easy. You may be invited to join a teacher’s group from your school or community, you can connect with a teacher preparing for an adventure to a destination you are interested in, or you can build your own travel group. Start by choosing the appropriate statement below and follow the steps.
I am joining my teacher’s travel group.
Explore
- Learn more online about the adventure your teacher is leading.
- You have the option to attend your teacher’s information night with your parents.
Enroll
- Your teacher will send you a special invitation with a link to enroll in his or her travel group.
- Apply online using your teacher’s invitation.
Prepare
- If you don’t have a passport, apply for it now!
- Visit your Travel Center regularly—here you’ll find all the resources you need, including pre-travel assignments, payment information, fundraising ideas, and all of the necessary forms to prepare for the adventure.
- Learn about the adventure and the region you’ll visit through our Discovery Education videos.
Live the Adventure
- Complete your Discovery Student Adventures community profile.
- Connect with fellow travelers in the online community.
- Post to the community during your travels to share the adventure with family and friends back home.

- Choose your desired travel date and destination
- Apply online
- Meet your adventure specialist, a Discovery Student Adventure representative dedicated to supporting you during this process.
Meet Your Travel Group
- Once you’ve determined where you will travel, your adventure specialist will find the travel group that fits you best.
- The teacher leading this group will contact you and invite you to his or her personal web page.
- Get acquainted with your fellow travelers through email, phone, and the web.
- Invite your friends to join you on your adventure.
