At a Glance

Welcome to Washington, D.C., the showcase of American democracy. A city of museums and monuments to political power, the District also sits at the heart of the Chesapeake Bay, only a stone’s throw away from the Appalachians and the city of Baltimore. Your trip starts with a visit to the White House, the U.S. Capitol, and the Lincoln Memorial. You’ll bike the National Mall and visit the National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institution. After you’ve taken in four centuries of history and art, you’ll embark on an eco-adventure, kayaking a scenic section of the Potomac River. Next stop: a hike on the Appalachian Trail followed by a white-water adventure through the gorgeous Appalachians. After a night in rustic cabins, you’ll head south to Baltimore, home to the National Aquarium and 660 species from jellyfish to stingrays to sharks and dolphins. Here, you’ll work with marine biologists and actually spend a fun-filled night in the National Aquarium. For seven days, you’ll walk in the shoes of our founding fathers, tour the epicenter of American political power, and witness the District’s surrounding natural beauty. Who knows, after this behind the scenes peek at our nation’s Capital, you just might set the plans in motion for your own run for the White House!
